AFTER BEING APPROACHED BY BEAUTIFUL WONDER I WAS COMMISSIONED TO DESIGN STEEL FRAMEWORK FOR THE SUPERHUGE 3D PRINTED HUMPBACK WHALE TAIL SCULPTURE BY CHINCHILLA 3D AND IT'S SURROUNDING OCEAN SURFACE.

A VERY SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION FOLLOWED A VERY TIGHT PROGRAMME AND THIS THING LOOKS INCREDIBLE.

BRIEF: BUILD REVIT MODEL AND DEVELOP CONSTRUCTION PACKAGE OF DRAWINGS.

FOLLOWING SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIPS ON PREVIOUS PROJECTS I WELCOMED CONISBEE'S INVITATION TO WORK WITH THEM IN DEVELOPING THE STRUCTURAL PACKAGE FOR A 13 STOREY STUDENT RESIDENCE IN NORWICH.

ALUMNO'S PABLO FANQUE HOUSE WAS DESIGNED BY

ARCHITECT CARSON & PARTNERS & BUILT BY CONTRACTORS

HG CONSTRUCTION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA & PROVIDES 244 PRETTY SWANKY ROOMS FOR STUDENTS.

CLIENT: CONISBEE

BRIEF: KICK REVIT MODEL INTO SHAPE AND PRODUCE CONSTRUCTION PACKAGE OF DRAWINGS.

CONISBEE NEEDED A REVIT USER CAPABLE OF HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING TO COME IN AND TAKE AN EXISTING STEEL FRAMED ACADEMY PROJECT THROUGH TO COMPLETION.

SO, THAT'S WHAT I DID AND THE MAIN CONTRACTOR NOW USES IT AS A BENCHMARK FOR OTHER SCHOOLS THEY BUILD.

I HAVE NOW COMPLETED SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WITH CONISBEE RANGING FROM HIGH END DOMESTIC DEVELOPMENTS LIKE BELOW GROUND POOL HOUSES.

TO HIGH RISE REINFORCED CONCRETE RESIDENTIAL BLOCKS.

UNDERWATER ROV

CLIENT: TE DRONES

BRIEF: DEVELOP 2nd STAGE PROTOTYPE DESIGN AND FABRICATE FOR TESTING, EXHIBITION AND MARKETING.

TE DRONES SPOTTED A GAP AND DECIDED TO DEVELOP A SUBMERSIBLE REMOTELY OPERATED VEHICLE TO FILL IT.

 

INITIALLY THEY CAME ALONG WITH BASIC SKETCHES FOR PARTS TO BE LASER CUT FROM ACRYLIC SHEET.

THE MOST RECENT 2nd STAGE PROTOTYPE SHIFTED TO CNC MACHINED HDPE, INCORPORATING INTEGRAL HARDWARE MOUNTS AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS SUCH AS INCREASED OVERALL ROBUSTNESS.

TE DRONES ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING PARTIES INTERESTED IN MAKING USE OF SUCH A RIG AND THE ASSOCIATED INSPECTION AND FILMING SERVICES.

BROKEN TOY

CLIENT: PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL

BRIEF: REPLICATE BROKEN DRIVE GEAR FOR CHILD'S TOY.

 

YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES, THE ONE TIME YOU GIVE IN TO TEMPTATION AND RIDE A KID'S PRIZED ELECTRIC CAR.

 

IT BREAKS. OF COURSE IT DOES.

 

IN THIS CASE THE COMPONENT THAT FAILED WAS THE TOOTHED GEAR THAT TRANSFERS DRIVE FROM THE MOTOR'S OUTPUT SHAFT TO THE ROAD WHEEL.

IN LIEU OF AN OFF THE SHELF REPLACEMENT PART THE CUSTOMER APPROACHED URBANAVITCHA.

THE PART WAS MEASURED BY HAND TO PRODUCE A DIGITAL 3D MODEL THAT COULD THEN BE USED TO PRODUCE THE REPLICA.

3D PRINTING WAS THE OBVIOUS CHOICE FOR A ONE-OFF, IN THE PHOTO YOU CAN SEE THE ORIGINAL INJECTION MOULDED GREY PART NEXT TO THE NEW NYLON POWDER PRINTED WHITE PART.

CLIENT: RAMBOLL UK

BRIEF: REVIT MODEL & FULL STRUCTURAL DRAWING PACK.

FOLLOW UP WORK: 1:150 SCALE LASER CUT PLYWOOD MODEL.

DALSTON LANE IS ONE OF SEVERAL CROSS LAMINATED TIMBER PROJECTS I'VE COMPLETED FOR THE TEAM AT RAMBOLL IN CAMBRIDGE, OTHERS INCLUDE THE CHROME COURT STUDENT RESIDENCE AT THE UEA CAMPUS IN NORWICH & THE MAYFIELD SCHOOL IN REDBRIDGE.

LIKE THE MAJORITY OF WORK I DO FOR CONSULTING STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS, THE TASK WAS TO PRODUCE A 3D STRUCTURAL MODEL USING REVIT® ON WHICH TO BASE MY FULL SET OF DRAWINGS & DETAILS THAT WOULD BE DEVELOPED RIGHT UP TO FINAL CONSTRUCTION STAGE.

I WAS LATER COMMISSIONED BY RAMBOLL TO BUILD A 1:150 SCALE PHYSICAL MODEL USING LASER CUT PLYWOOD.

THIS DEVELOPMENT BY WAUGH THISTELTON ARCHITECTS  GRABBED A TON OF POSITIVE HEADLINES IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY MEDIA.

STANDING 10 STOREYS & HOUSING 121 RESIDENTIAL UNITS IT CLAIMED THE TITLE OF LARGEST CLT BUILDING IN THE WORLD AT THE TIME OF IT'S COMPLETION IN 2017.

CLT FORMS THE WHOLE STRUCTURE FROM 1st FLOOR UPWARDS GIVING IT VERY AWESOME CARBON CREDENTIALS.
